Barriers Fall Over Tempest

Story sequence

King Edmaris of Falmuth fears that Tempest's safe roads and eastern trade route will bypass his kingdom's toll-based economy. Church doctrine supplies a moral excuse, while merchants and nobles expect territory and technology from a quick campaign.

Clayman's agent Mjurran is forced to erect an anti-magic barrier over the city, and Church knights add a second field that weakens monsters. Three otherworlders serving Falmuth provoke violence, then the invasion begins while Rimuru is isolated by Hinata.

Tempest's rule against harming humans delays the defenders' response. Shion and many citizens are killed while protecting children and weaker residents. Benimaru preserves what command structure remains, and Mjurran confesses her role after Yohm refuses to abandon her.

Rimuru returns, learns the scale of the loss, and initially blames his own optimism. Elen recounts a legend suggesting that a True Demon Lord's awakening may create enough energy and authority to restore souls that have not dispersed beyond reach.

Motivations

• Falmuth wants to preserve trade income and prove monsters cannot rival a human kingdom.
• Clayman wants casualties that destabilize Rimuru and a controlled Mjurran who can hide his involvement.
• Rimuru wants to recover his people without pretending the invasion can be answered by diplomacy alone.

Outcome

Tempest survives as a state but suffers mass casualties; Rimuru decides to use the invading army as the seed for a Harvest Festival.

Consequences

• Rimuru revises Tempest's rules so citizens may defend themselves against human attackers.
• Falmuth loses the moral and military initiative, while Diablo's later political operation dismantles its old regime.
