Volume 23 extends the light-novel ending into former-life Earth rather than leaving all Japan material exclusive to the older web novel. Rimuru identifies the era in which young Shizue Izawa was displaced during wartime destruction.

Because simply preventing her summoning in the one history would erase relationships that produced the current Rimuru and Tempest, Ciel treats the rescue as a world-line and parallel-existence problem. The goal is to preserve the lived Cardinal World history while also creating a route in which the child is not abandoned to Leon and Ifrit.

Shizu is allowed a human life whose consequences can reach forward through that Earth-side history. The episode reframes Rimuru's inheritance of her form: he can honor the life that happened and still use transcendent power to answer the injustice at its beginning.

Terminology for the newly released final volume may vary by later official English translation; the archive therefore labels this record as Volume 23 light-novel continuity rather than silently merging it with the web-novel epilogue.
