Story sequence
Magic Sense leads Rimuru to Veldora, the Storm Dragon sealed by a Hero roughly three centuries earlier. Most beings would flee from his aura; Rimuru lacks the cultural fear needed to keep his distance. Their conversation shifts from suspicion to companionship because each is isolated in a different way.
Veldora explains magicules, monsters, naming, and the broad geography outside the cave. Rimuru admits that he came from another world. Veldora, fascinated by the claim and entertained by Rimuru's directness, proposes an equal bond rather than a master-servant contract.
They create the shared surname Tempest. Veldora names the slime Rimuru, and Rimuru names the dragon Veldora Tempest. The exchange links their souls and establishes a family identity that will later become the name of a nation.
Unlimited Imprisonment is too complex to break from outside. Rimuru therefore absorbs both Veldora and the seal into Predator's isolated space. Great Sage analyzes from Rimuru's side while Veldora studies the prison from within, turning an impossible rescue into a long technical project.
Motivations
- Veldora wants freedom but values a real friend more than empty flattery.
- Rimuru refuses to abandon the first person who treated his new existence as meaningful.
Outcome
Veldora disappears into Rimuru's internal space, and Rimuru leaves the cave carrying both the dragon and the seal.
Consequences
- The removal of Veldora's aura creates a power vacuum across the Great Forest of Jura.
- Rimuru gains the spiritual connection that later enables Veldora's release, restoration, and repeated revival.
The Tempest bond is the emotional center of the series and the first cause behind the political upheaval that follows.
