Satoru Mikami Becomes a Slime

Story sequence

Satoru Mikami is a thirty-seven-year-old construction-company employee in Tokyo. During a street attack aimed at his junior colleague Tamura, Satoru is fatally injured. The mysterious Voice of the World interprets his scattered final thoughts as specifications for a new body: resistance to heat and cold, reduced need for normal organs, protection from pain, and an analytical partner capable of answering questions.

He awakens in darkness with no limbs, eyes, or voice. By touching and absorbing his surroundings he discovers that he is a slime in a magic-rich cavern. The abilities called Predator and Great Sage are not instant omniscience: Predator can ingest and isolate matter, while Great Sage can analyze only what Rimuru supplies and often needs time or repeated experiments.

Satoru's identity persists, but the new body has different instincts and needs. He begins treating the cave as a laboratory, consuming water, ore, and Hipokute herbs, then using analysis and synthesis to reproduce high-quality restorative medicine. This practical curiosity becomes the basic method behind his later growth.

After Great Sage helps him acquire Magic Sense, the featureless darkness becomes a full magical map. The small creature that cannot see normally gains a perception system more flexible than human vision.

The former human accepts the provisional life of a slime and builds a toolkit of analysis, storage, mimicry, and resistances.
