Story sequence
A weakened goblin village asks Rimuru for protection from a Direwolf pack emboldened by Veldora's disappearance. Rimuru accepts in exchange for loyalty and information, then improvises defenses even though he has never commanded troops.
He defeats the pack leader and offers the remaining wolves a choice: stop the attack and join the village. The wolves accept because strength and hierarchy matter to them. The leader's son later receives the name Ranga and chooses to serve Rimuru without resentment over the battle.
Rimuru names the goblins and wolves one by one. Naming transfers enormous magicule energy and makes him collapse into sleep, but the recipients evolve into hobgoblins and Tempest Wolves. Their improved bodies, intelligence, and loyalty transform the settlement almost overnight.
He establishes rules against attacking humans, fighting among citizens, and looking down on other species. These are simple emergency rules, yet they become the earliest constitution of Tempest's mixed-species society.
Motivations
- The goblins want survival and a protector after the forest loses Veldora's deterrence.
- Rimuru wants peaceful coexistence and instinctively solves conflict by integrating former opponents.
Outcome
The goblins and wolves unite under Rimuru; Rigurd becomes an administrator and Ranga becomes Rimuru's shadow-traveling companion.
Consequences
- The settlement needs housing, clothing, roads, food systems, and trained guards.
- Rimuru's generosity with names begins attracting communities that see evolution and safety under his rule.
Tempest begins as a promise of protection backed by rules that apply across species.
