Privacy policy
What Tempest Archive stores, what it never stores, and how to change your mind.
The short version
Tempest Archive is a reading site, not an advertising business. It sets no advertising cookies, builds no profile of you across other websites, and never sells or shares personal information with data brokers.
Your reading progress lives in your own browser by default. Usage statistics are collected only if you say yes, and even then your IP address is discarded rather than stored.
What stays in your browser
Your spoiler level, which records you have marked read, your bookmarks, your text size, line height and line width, and the last record you opened are all stored in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you create an account and turn on syncing.
Two values are held for the length of a browsing session only: a random identifier used to group page views, and your scroll position on pages you navigate back to.
Clearing your browser's site data for this domain erases all of it. Nothing is recoverable afterwards, so export anything you want to keep first.
Optional usage statistics
The first time you visit, the archive asks whether it may record anonymous usage totals. If you decline, nothing is sent. If you accept, each page view records the page path, the kind of record you opened, how long a reading session lasted, the search terms typed into the archive's own search, the hostname a link came from, a two-letter country code, whether the device is a phone, tablet or desktop, and the browser window width.
Your IP address is used to rate-limit abuse and is immediately hashed with a secret salt before storage. The raw address is never written to the database, and the hash cannot be reversed into an address. The session identifier is hashed the same way.
This is first-party analytics: the data goes to the archive's own database and to no advertising network, and it is never combined with data about you from other sites.
You can change your answer at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which removes the stored choice and causes the archive to ask again.
Accounts
Creating an account is optional; the entire archive is readable without one. If you create one, you provide an email address and the archive sends a short-lived sign-in link to it. No password is created, so there is no password for anyone to steal.
Authentication is handled by Supabase, which stores your email address and session on the archive's behalf. Your account record holds your email address, your membership status, and any administrative role you have been granted.
Payments
If paid membership is enabled, payments are processed by an external payment provider acting as merchant of record. Card numbers and billing details are entered on the provider's systems and are never seen by, sent to, or stored by this site.
The archive receives only what it needs to unlock membership features: which plan you are on, whether it is active, and when the current period ends.
Your choices
You can decline analytics, read without an account, clear all locally stored data at any time, or ask for your account and its associated records to be deleted.
To request deletion or ask what is held about you, write to contact@tempestarchive.com from the address on the account.
Children
The archive is a reference site suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the optional account email described above. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact the address above and it will be removed.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes to analytics will re-prompt for consent rather than being applied silently.
